A researcher shared their experience of using frontier LLMs (such as GPT-5.6 and Claude Fable) to successfully solve an open theoretical question in wireless communications that had been left unsolved for 25 years.

The problem was intensely studied between 2000 and the 2010s. The author noted that verification is typically an insane bottleneck in theoretical work, but after working on it non-stop for 7 days, they managed to leverage AI to settle the problem.
