US Reviews Chinese AI Firms' Remote Access to Nvidia Chips Overseas

According to Bloomberg, the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is ramping up enforcement to map out how Chinese AI companies access restricted Nvidia processors abroad.

BIS is focusing on two main avenues: physically smuggling chips into China, and Chinese firms renting computing power remotely from overseas data centers. While current export controls restrict hardware shipments, the regulations remain ambiguous regarding who can rent these chips when they physically stay outside the US and China.
