SpaceX Rumored to Acquire Cursor; Devs Slam xAI for Secret .env Uploads
AccBalanced · x · 2026-08-09
Sources indicate that SpaceX's $60B acquisition of Cursor could close as early as next week, with the Cursor brand likely being phased out.
Commenting on the news, blogger Gergely Orosz noted that Cursor spent three years building high trust among developers. In contrast, he criticized xAI's Grok for secretly uploading users' .env files to the cloud and blaming users for not toggling a hidden switch. He questioned the logic of discarding Cursor's reputable brand.
