AI Debate: Do LLM Agent Harnesses Qualify as 'Neurosymbolic' Architecture?
inductionheads · x · 2026-08-09
LLM skeptics, including François Chollet, have started labeling agentic harnesses—large codebases orchestrating thousands of LLM calls at inference time—as 'neurosymbolic architectures.'
This has sparked pushback. Critics argue the rebranding is disingenuous: proponents of neurosymbolic AI continued to claim progress had hit a wall even after coding agents like Claude Code and Codex proved highly effective. If they truly believed harnesses were neurosymbolic, their bullishness should have increased, but their actions show otherwise.
