Debate Sparked by OpenAI Safety Report: Sparks of Superintelligence
intellectronica · x · 2026-08-09
In response to the panic following OpenAI's recent safety report, developer intellectronica offered two reflections:
- No Need for Shock: Smart people have been predicting such events with strong logical arguments for 15-20 years. Being shocked now only implies a previous lack of serious consideration. It's time to recalibrate.
- Be Pleased with Progress: If you already took these predictions seriously but moved forward anyway, you should be impressed by the progress. These events are the first sparks of superintelligence, arriving faster than many dared to hope.
