Report: Hassabis Planned to Leave with Jeff Dean, Persuaded to Stay by Google

According to industry publication Pathfounders, Demis Hassabis wanted to leave Google at the same time as Jeff Dean. However, Google management felt the news would cause a collapse in its share price—following a 5% drop after the initial announcement. Instead, Hassabis was persuaded to transition to a Chair role, allowing the organization to settle before his eventual exit.
