According to 404 Media, major companies like Uber and Walmart are capping employee AI tool usage as enterprise costs surge. Leaked internal audio reveals that non-engineers doing routine tasks like converting PDFs to slides are the main drivers of token consumption, not engineers.
To control budgets after exhausting its AI budget in four months, Uber capped engineer usage of tools like Claude Code and Cursor at $1,500 per month. Walmart imposed similar restrictions on its internal AI platform. The shift of GitHub Copilot to usage-based pricing has further increased structural cost pressures. Meanwhile, Accenture plans to launch Token IQ to help enterprises monitor AI spending and ROI, signaling a boom in the enterprise AI FinOps tooling category.
