Report: Google Persuaded Demis Hassabis to Stay Over Stock Crash Fears
haider1 · x · 2026-08-09
According to a report by Pathfounders, Demis Hassabis planned to leave Google alongside Jeff Dean. However, Google management feared the news would trigger a collapse in its share price and convinced him to stay.
Instead of an immediate exit, Hassabis transitioned to a Chair role to allow the organization to stabilize. Observers note he seems increasingly focused on Isomorphic Labs, and this role may pave the way for a more dignified departure later.
