Altman: Massive Inference Demand Will Fund OpenAI's Giant Model Training

Sam Altman stated in a recent interview that OpenAI will not need to rely on extremely high margins to fund the training of its frontier models.
- Inference Monetization: He expects model usage to be so massive that a significant portion of future compute will be used to sell inference to customers. Even if they only enjoy a modest margin on trillions of dollars in revenue, it will be enough to afford training giant models.
- Compute as a Moat: Altman suggests that as intelligence itself becomes fungible, durable competitive advantage will shift to whoever operates the largest and cheapest compute fleets. Even if competitors copy capabilities via distillation and compress prices, OpenAI's business logic remains solid as long as its total usage expands faster than its margins shrink.
