Report: DeepMind's Hassabis Wanted to Leave Google, Blocked by Management
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-08-08
According to a report by Pathfounders, Demis Hassabis previously intended to leave Google alongside Jeff Dean. However, Google management allegedly blocked the move, fearing it would trigger a collapse in the company's stock price.
As a compromise, Hassabis was persuaded to take on a Chairman role, allowing him to exit "in a dignified manner" later. Following the recent leadership reshuffle announcements, Google's stock still fell by 5 percent.
