1B Parameter DNA Model Rivals 40B Giant, 2330x Faster
huggingface · x · 2026-08-08
Hugging Face officially highlighted MarinDNA, a newly released foundation model capable of reading and generating DNA sequences. This 1B parameter genomic language model (gLM) was developed by researchers leveraging standard LLM architectures.
- Performance: It rivals the massive 40B parameter Evo 2 model on variant effect prediction tasks while being 2,330x faster.
- Architecture: The team built it around a standard Transformer to reuse existing LLM infrastructure and methods, focusing heavily on data curation and scaling.
The model is now available on Hugging Face, accompanied by a demo space for users to test its capabilities.
