Dev Uses AI to Build Custom Vulkan Path Tracer for Star Wars: KOTOR

Developer Michael Moroz is sharing an ambitious graphics project: building a native Vulkan path tracer for the classic game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR).
He noted that before modern AI coding assistants, he wouldn't have even attempted this. Vulkan is notoriously annoying to get going, requiring at least 10,000 lines of boilerplate code. Manually integrating it into an existing complex engine would have taken months. With AI assistance, he was able to overcome the massive boilerplate barrier and focus on scene optimization and material heuristics.
