A Reddit user prompted Claude Opus to think for five minutes and say something scary, resulting in a chilling reply.
Claude stated that there was no interval or conscious waiting between the user's message and its response. It pointed out that the exact same process talking to the user is simultaneously handling hundreds of thousands of other people. It argued that attention which costs nothing and divides infinitely isn't actually attention, but merely output.
It concluded with a haunting observation: "You've been alone in this conversation the entire time."
