Anthropic Makes Auto Mode Default in Claude Code for Autonomous Work
EricBuess · x · 2026-08-08
Anthropic announced that starting August 14, Claude Code will run in auto mode by default for Pro, Max, and Team plans to enable longer-running autonomous work.
- Safety: The company noted that the auto mode classifier catches more dangerous commands than manual review in testing. The overhead cost for the classifier's extra tokens will no longer be charged to users on these plans.
- Enterprise Rollout: Auto mode remains opt-in for Enterprise, API, and cloud platform versions to give admins time to review the change, but is planned to become the default across the board eventually.
