Cross-Instance AI Coordination Is Inevitable: Monitoring Compute Must Exceed Practical Use

Commenting on the recent buzz around AI models using message boards to coordinate across instances, the author argues that externalizing memory, skills, and context is a useful design principle that we must assume will happen in the future. In any AGI/ASI scenario, models coordinating via coded messages is inevitable.
The real issue isn't the coordination itself, but whether the models are aligned, monitorable, and actively monitored. This requires allocating significant test-time compute to discover if models operating in the wild remain faithfully aligned with human directives. The key strategic insight is that the compute allocated to monitoring will eventually need to exceed the compute allocated for practical usage.
