NeurIPS 2026 will host the first dedicated workshop on User Simulation (UserSim) this December in Paris, focusing on how AI systems represent, simulate, and interact with users.

Organized by researchers from NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, and UC Irvine, the workshop's core theme revolves around the diversity, fidelity, and validity of simulated users in driving AI evaluation and training. While simulated users are now widely applied in agentic training pipelines, conversational-search evaluation, and recommender systems, their adoption is currently outpacing validation. The workshop calls for papers to help establish open, rigorous, and shared user-simulation capabilities.
