Claude Code Defaults to Auto Mode Next Month, Blocking 89% of Dangerous Commands

EricBuess · x · 2026-08-08

Starting August 14, Anthropic will enable Auto mode by default in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team users.

The mode uses a separate classifier to review shell commands and actions. In testing, it caught 89% of dangerous commands, compared to just 14% caught by manual approval. The team claims this automated permission system is much safer than any existing alternatives, with no overhead cost for the classifier.
