Amazon Backs Massive 7.65 GW Gas Plant in Texas Exclusively for AI Data Center

Reports reveal Amazon is backing potentially the largest gas power plant ever built in the US to fuel its new AI data center campus in Pecos County, Texas.

The site will initially be entirely disconnected from the Texas electric grid. In January, the project received a permit to emit up to 33 million tons of carbon dioxide annually. Commenters note that natural gas will remain a crucial transition energy source until Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are fully unlocked.
