OpenAI's economic research team has published ChatGPT usage data broken down by country for the first time. Based on a monthly sample of 300,000 messages (with differential privacy noise), the core conclusion is a shift from 'asking' to 'doing'.
- Work scenario shift: 45% of work-related messages ask AI to directly produce results (doing), compared to only 22% in non-work scenarios (which are dominated by asking).
- Emerging market boom: Latin America, Africa, and Oceania show fierce growth, with Africa increasing 24x over the past three years.
- Demographic changes: The share of users aged 35+ is recovering, rising from about 24.8% to 34%, narrowing the gap with younger demographics.
