Rumor: OpenAI Fixed Pre-training Bottleneck, Developing Larger Model Codenamed 'Doug'
haider1 · x · 2026-08-07
According to rumors, OpenAI has seemingly resolved its pre-training scaling issues and is now developing a much larger model codenamed "Doug".
This is highly significant because OpenAI has spent recent years extracting massive improvements primarily through reinforcement learning (RL) and post-training. Combining those techniques with renewed pre-training scaling could unlock substantial new model capabilities.
