Devs Bypass Abstractions to Run Agents Directly on Raw Infra for RL

After speaking with numerous developers, the author observed two compelling patterns in using agents for RL and post-training workloads:
- Minimal Abstractions: Cracked engineers are largely bypassing specific agentic standards, frameworks, and tidy UIs/CLIs.
- Closer to Infra: Developers previously bound to high-level frameworks like PyTorch are now directly integrating agents into raw infrastructure such as Slurm, Kubernetes, WEKA, and CUDA.
The author notes that since most MLEs understand infra fundamentals, agents bridge the gap nicely without the need for clunky abstractions. The best platforms will be those that safely expose this underbelly without getting in the way.
