Reconstructing Outdoor Scenes from Single 360 Photo: Insta360's G2PS

jiqizhixin · x · 2026-08-07

Insta360 Research introduces PanoLOG, a new method capable of reconstructing massive outdoor scenes from a single 360-degree panoramic photo.

The core of this method is the G2PS (Geometry and Gradient-based Partitioning) algorithm. When processing panoramic images, traditional scene partitioning strategies often fail because the image covers all directions. G2PS uses depth analysis and gradient signals to intelligently divide the scene into focused blocks, enabling efficient parallel training.

Experiments show that on the new Pano360 benchmark, this method outperforms existing 3D reconstruction techniques, delivering better rendering quality at scale. The team has open-sourced the code, arXiv paper, and project page.
