Google Execs Prioritizing GCP Over Gemini Is Smart, Compute Isn't the Issue

Responding to claims that Google executives are sacrificing Gemini's compute to protect GCP profits, the author argues that blaming Gemini's shortcomings on TPU compute is disingenuous. Labs with far less compute have successfully built superior models.
The author concedes that prioritizing GCP would be understandable if Gemini was an exceptional model merely suffering from a lack of inference compute. However, given Gemini's current quality, Google's leadership is making a smart business decision by protecting their highly profitable cloud infrastructure over forcing Gemini deployments.
