Researcher Rohan Bharat reflected on his 2015 internship at Google Brain, noting that despite its concentration of top talent at the time, it is no longer at the forefront of AI. He urges current AI researchers not to lose sight of scientific heritage amid "singularity" doom-saying.
Science is an enterprise spanning thousands of years, relying on the recording and safeguarding of knowledge. Even if today's "frontier labs" become obsolete, the knowledge spread through papers, open-source code, and preservation mechanisms will outlast corporate lifespans and institutional collapses.
