AI is rapidly threatening the Philippines' $40 billion outsourcing industry, which employs 1.9 million people. Originally built on the advantage of cheap English-speaking labor, the industry is now facing a shift as clients expect suppliers to integrate automation.
According to industry data, over two-thirds of outsourcing firms are already running AI pilots. Although the industry association's president claims most affected workers transition to other roles, the mechanics of automation initially lead to more work rather than less, signaling an inevitable shrinkage in basic headcount contracts.
