IT consulting giant Cognizant evaluated and moved away from GitHub Copilot, rolling out Claude Code broadly across its engineering teams.
- Decision Driver: A Cognizant head noted that snapshot benchmarks aren't decisive since model leadership rotates. Anthropic won because it climbs the enterprise value chain faster than OpenAI, offering a B2B orientation that fits system integrators.
- Technical Reason: For heavy legacy modernization work (like pulling apart COBOL mainframes), Claude Code's larger context window allows teams to process bigger chunks of a migration at once, solving a binding constraint.
