OpenAI and four of its competitors have agreed on a unified standard for AI agents, adopting open protocols like the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
This move indicates that major industry players are collaborating to solve the fragmentation in the AI agent ecosystem. By standardizing the interfaces, interactions between AI models from different vendors and external tools or data sources will become much more seamless.
