AI researcher JD Pressman expressed concerns regarding the decision to open-source the frontier biological model Evo 2. While he acknowledges it might be fine in this specific instance, he believes it is not the right strategic move.
He points out that the number of people who legitimately need access to such advanced models is quite small. The downside risks associated with fully open-sourcing it seem significantly larger than the friction of providing access exclusively to institutions that apply for it.
