OpenAI Unifies Capabilities: Updated Sol Model Merges Quick Chats and Deep Reasoning
morqon · x · 2026-08-07
OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman announced a significant architectural milestone for ChatGPT. When GPT-5 launched, it utilized a routing system, but the system card promised future integration into a single unified model.
That future has arrived with the release of the updated Sol model. Sol successfully merges quick chats and deep reasoning—two capabilities that historically required separate models. Brockman emphasized that this unification is a very significant step towards making ChatGPT simpler and more intuitive. Additionally, free users now get unlimited text chats with Luna, a quite capable model.
