Ex-Googler: DeepMind Built a ChatGPT Rival a Year Early But Was Blocked

A former Google team member revealed that DeepMind had developed a ChatGPT-like product (codenamed LMChat) a full year before OpenAI's launch.
However, Google was too nervous to release it, and DeepMind was blocked from shipping products that could potentially disrupt Google's existing business, causing them to miss the first-mover advantage.
