haider1 · x · 2026-08-07
Following rumors that OpenAI is preparing to launch a new major model codenamed "Astra," industry analysts have weighed in on its potential scale and serving costs.
While GPT-4.5 was reportedly a 5-trillion-parameter model, Astra is a completely new pretrain estimated to reach between 7 to 10 trillion parameters. Despite its massive size, OpenAI is expected to serve Astra far more cheaply than competitors' equivalent models, leveraging a massive influx of newly online compute and significant advancements in infrastructure and inference optimization.
