According to prominent leaker Leo, OpenAI's new foundation model Astra (aka GPT-6) could be released as early as next week. Astra features entirely new pretraining and is internally codenamed "Mewfour," already in testing. Rumors suggest GPT-6 would arrive soon after version 5.6, targeting late July or early August, with the goal of consistently outperforming Anthropic's Fable 5. Another leak indicates Astra is the largest model OpenAI has trained since GPT-4.5, with its latest dogfood checkpoint being the release candidate.
