Terafab Revealed: Musk's 1TW/Year Megafactory for Earth and Orbital AI Compute
XFreeze · x · 2026-08-06
The new xAI website, designed by Grok, officially launched the Terafab project, revealing what it calls the most epic chip-building effort ever.
- Massive Scale: The factory targets 10 million sq ft and an output of 1 TW (terawatt) of chips annually—double the current total U.S. power consumption.
- Integrated Production: Combines logic, memory, and advanced packaging under one roof. It will produce AI5/AI6 chips for FSD and Optimus, alongside D3 chips designed for space.
- Orbital Compute Vision: Aiming to leverage solar power, Starship V3, and 1 billion Optimus robots, the project's ultimate goal is building orbital AI compute, calling space "the only truly scalable solution."
