XFreeze · x · 2026-08-06
SpaceX has unveiled its most ambitious industrial project to date: the Terafab chip manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas. Planned with over 100 million square feet of space, it is designed to become the largest chip manufacturing facility on Earth.
Key details of the project include:
- Investment & Jobs: Approximately $16.8 billion for the initial phase, creating at least 3,000 permanent jobs.
- Integrated Operations: Combining logic, memory, advanced packaging, and testing under one roof.
- Target Applications: Building chips specifically for Tesla Optimus and autonomous Cybercabs, as well as high-power chips for SpaceX’s orbital data centers.
- Capacity Goal: A long-term target of producing 1 terawatt of compute hardware annually to meet the combined chip demand from Tesla and SpaceX, which is expected to exceed current global supply.
