DeepSeek API Price Hike Looms as Server Demand Overwhelms Capacity
机器之心 · wechat · 2026-08-06
Due to exponential growth in API calls overwhelming its servers, DeepSeek has announced an upcoming price increase for its API, advising developers to manage their request volumes and top-ups prudently. DeepSeek's highly cost-effective tokens have attracted massive traffic, but the subsidized low-pricing strategy has become unsustainable against compute costs.
The recent release of DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731, offering high intelligence at an extremely low price, triggered a surge in global usage, leading to frequent 'Server Busy' errors and downtime. Although peak-valley pricing was introduced earlier to balance the load, the 24/7 peak traffic has rendered it insufficient. Meanwhile, the flagship 1.6T parameter DeepSeek-V4-Pro API is expected to fully roll out in early August, potentially alongside a new Harness ecosystem framework.
