OpenAI's Real-Time Voice System Threatens Traditional AI Orchestrators
Once_ina_Lifetime · reddit · 2026-08-06
OpenAI's new real-time voice system, GPT Live, introduces a novel architecture that handles speech-to-speech interactions with zero latency while delegating reasoning and tool calling to separate asynchronous paths.
This fundamentally disrupts the traditional cascade pipeline, where orchestrator platforms are needed to glue components together. By handling interactions natively, the new architecture leaves very little for external orchestrators to manage, potentially threatening their core value proposition.
