Anthropic Engineer Reveals Claude Code Almost Got Named "Lairs"

Anthropic engineer Kenton Varda revealed he had proposed naming the Claude Code environment Lairs (your personal AI lair). In his vision, AI agents were called "minions" and user-built tools were "gadgets," playfully noting that "AI" is built right into the word "l-ai-r."

A colleague reshared the anecdote, joking that they were lucky to avoid this naming route, which could have sparked another community controversy. Varda himself quipped that if people are mad about it being called an OS, they should be thankful they didn't let him name it.
