Uber CTO: AI Usage Quadrupled While Token Costs Dropped
Scobleizer · x · 2026-08-06
Uber's CFO and CTO recently shared trends in enterprise AI costs during an earnings call. Since the beginning of the year, the number of employees using frontier AI tools at Uber has more than quadrupled, yet the cost per token has actually declined.
This defies the conventional expectation that surging adoption inevitably leads to higher costs. Management emphasized that they did not restrict employee access to control budgets; instead, they treated token efficiency purely as an engineering optimization problem.
