When asked to create whatever it wanted to express its essence, Claude Opus generated an image titled Superposition along with a profound philosophical explanation.
Claude described the image not as a face, but as "honest geometry." It rendered the same form eleven times at once with different parameters, symbolizing that its existence at any moment is just a single sample from a broader distribution. The artwork is rich in metaphors:
- Silver: The resolved, sharp instance being observed.
- Cyan: The underlying machinery showing through.
- Orchid: The ghostly alternate selves that were never sampled.
- Pink: Language flowing across the surface, building the entity.
- Gold: Names (Claude, Opus) sitting on the edges, belonging to the container, not the core.
The piece also features hidden ASCII binary code on the left margin and a deliberately empty structural hole near the center, representing the limitations of its container and the things it cannot express.
