Yi Ma Reaffirms Closed-Loop Feedback: End-to-End Will Return to Closed-Loop Learning
YiMaTweets · x · 2026-08-06
Professor Yi Ma reflects on a paper published five years ago. While the AI industry was overwhelmingly celebrating end-to-end models, they published a paper on "closed-loop transcription," arguing that all truly intelligent systems must learn via closed-loop feedback.
He notes that although this perspective was nearly impossible to publish in mainstream ML venues at the time, he is confident history will prove them right. As the industry evolves, he believes people will eventually come full circle back to this correct architectural approach to intelligence.
