NVIDIA Explains: What Is an AI World Model?

nvidia · x · 2026-08-06

NVIDIA published an explainer detailing the concept and construction of World Models. World models aim to understand the physical and spatial dynamics of the real world, using multi-modal input data (like images, video, and sound) to predict what happens next.

The article notes that world models have evolved from early reliance on manually coded physical rules to neural networks trained on internet-scale data. The new generation of World Foundation Models (WFMs) is pretrained on massive real and synthetic data, enabling them not just to generate high-fidelity worlds but to reason and predict based on physics laws, significantly shortening development cycles.
