Disney's New TikTok Deal: A Trojan Horse for AI-Generated Characters
adariostrange · x · 2026-08-06
Disney's previous $1 billion partnership with OpenAI, which aimed to integrate Sora-generated content into Disney Plus, was scrapped after OpenAI shifted its focus to enterprise customers. Subsequently, Disney struck a new deal with TikTok, allowing users to push viral short videos featuring select Disney characters into a dedicated section on the Disney Plus app. While Disney frames this as “thoughtfully curated fan-created content,” the arrangement could act as a Trojan Horse, paving the way for AI-generated characters like Mickey Mouse to enter the Hollywood streaming ecosystem.
