Google Cloud's Filestore Migrates to Colossus, Decoupling Capacity from IOPS

Google Cloud has announced a major enhancement to Filestore, its secure and scalable NFS file service, by incorporating a cloud-native backend built directly on Colossus, Google's foundational distributed storage system.
Leveraging Colossus allows Filestore to support demanding modern workloads, including cutting-edge AI and agentic workflows. The upgrade decouples storage capacity from performance, enabling users to provision IOPS independently to meet workload demands without over-provisioning capacity. It also delivers high-performance persistent storage for GKE containerized environments via the Filestore CSI driver.
