Researcher Chris Potts points out that top AI organizations like OpenAI and Anthropic seem highly negative about academic conferences. He expresses frustration over this and optimistically hopes they will find new ways to nurture talent and encourage open scientific progress.
While partially sympathetic to their negative view, he emphasizes that these conferences functioned extraordinarily well before the massive influx of industry papers. Therefore, the current volume issues are unlikely to be caused by academics specifically, and blaming them for present-day problems is misguided.
