Scanning Uni Dorm Room with 3D Gaussian Splatting via SuperSplat

willeastcott · x · 2026-08-06

Eric Wittens, founder of PlayCanvas, shared a stunning 3D scene reconstruction case: someone scanned their university dorm room using 3D Gaussian Splatting.

The scan perfectly preserves every poster and desk clutter in the dorm, seemingly freezing time. With the SuperSplat tool, users can easily explore and share such high-fidelity 3D scenes, which could be used to revisit old places decades later.
