Hugging Face co-founder Clement Delangue remarked that Google could have been the dominating force in AI by open-sourcing its frontier models like Gemini, Veo, and Nano Banana. Instead, the company chose to keep them behind APIs for a few billion dollars in revenue. He added that there might still be time to shift strategies.
