Chamath Slams AI Long-Horizon Tasks as a 'Joke', Warns of Looming Trough of Disillusionment

At the Stanford AI Club, prominent investor Chamath bluntly stated that current AI long-horizon tasks and complex problem-solving capabilities simply "do not work," criticizing existing evaluations and multi-day test scripts as ineffective.
He noted that AI development will inevitably follow the historical pattern of technologies like the internet, experiencing a hype peak followed by a natural contraction into a "trough of disillusionment." He warned that if the industry cannot bridge this chasm and make AI function in highly complicated environments, the public will eventually dismiss AI as a joke. As a solution, he emphasized the need to build a "symbolic space" that guides the embedded space.
