Google DeepMind and Partners Fund Multi-Agent AI Safety Research with $10M

Google DeepMind, together with Schmidt Sciences, the Cooperative AI Foundation, and others, announced a new technical research funding call of up to $10M dedicated to multi-agent AI system safety.

As AI technology scales, millions of agents built by different organizations will soon interact, communicate, and transact in digital environments. While most current safety evaluations analyze models in isolation, interacting autonomous agents can suddenly produce complex, unpredictable "emergent" behaviors. This funding aims to empower global researchers to develop frameworks that can predict, measure, and monitor these collective multi-agent transitions, mitigating the "invisible" safety risks that arise when independent systems interact.
