Top Investor Reveals Ilya's SSI to Release First Model in August

Gavin Baker, a prominent billionaire investor and Nvidia's first major institutional investor, revealed that Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence (SSI) is expected to release its first model this month.
Amid a significant pullback in AI stocks, Baker noted that Silicon Valley remains highly bullish with robust compute demand. However, he highlighted a potential technological turning point that could disrupt the current optimistic outlook on compute: continual learning and sample-efficient learning.
- Compute Demand Cliff: Early models were trained on roughly 20 billion tokens, compared to 300 trillion today. If labs achieve the ability to pre-train on only 10 trillion tokens and then let the model learn autonomously in the real world, the demand for large-scale pre-training—and consequently Nvidia GPUs—could drop precipitously.
- Wall Street's Breakdown in Diversity: Baker also observed that analysts increasingly rely on LLMs like Claude to interpret financial news, leading to a monopoly of homogenized AI logic. This consensus is causing extreme asset price volatility and shrinking market cycles.
