EU Begins Enforcing AI Act: Mandatory Disclosure for Chatbots and Deepfakes from August

emmanuelvivier · x · 2026-08-05

The European Commission announced that, starting August 2, 2026, the EU AI Office and national authorities will officially begin enforcing the Artificial Intelligence Act.

New transparency rules taking effect on the same date require certain AI systems to inform users when they are interacting with AI. Deepfakes (images, audio, or video edited or generated by AI) must be explicitly labeled, and AI-generated or altered content must carry machine-readable marks for easier detection. Over 180 organizations have already signed the Code of Practice on the transparency of AI-generated content.
